DENNISDEE WINS THE R. E. McCABE AWARD
Hello this is I B Lyon reporting from Bethlehem PA . I'm here to interview Dennisdee, the first owner of the year.
I planned to meet Dennisdee at his home in the burbs. But to my suprise he met me at the Lehigh Valley Airport looking a little disheveled. After a hearty hand shake and several hellos I asked him . Why the change of plans? He looked from side to side as if expecting to be hit and said. "Well my wife threw me out and I am staying close by at the Sands Casino-Resort. So I thought I would save you a taxi ride ." That was very nice of him and I had to ask. Why did your wife throw you out? he got that look again and said. " Well....My lovley bride hinted that she would like a gift that would go from 0 to 260 in 2.4 seconds. So....I bought her a Bathroom Scale. Needless to say the gift didn't go over well." ... OUCH!!!
We pulled into the Sands Resort and Dennisdee handed the keys to the Valet. We walked thru the Lobby to Emeril's Chop House Resturant. A very attractive Brunette seated us at a window table . He ordered 2 Whiskeys, then I ordered one also. When the drinks arrived I started my interview. Tell me somethings about Dennisdee? He slugged a drink down and replied. " my name is Dennis DiCristina, originally from Brooklyn NY, and now live in Bethlehem, PA. I am married for 35 wonderful years. With two grown sons. My wife and I were just blessed with our first grandchild on Sept 14th. A beautiful heathy Granddaughter." Wow a Grandchild !! Congrats on your granddaughter. And I'm sure after 35 years the little wo......uh..... er....the wife will forgive you.So Dennis , what is your favorite ML Baseball team? As our bowls of Littleneck Clam Chowder arrived. Dennis slurped a spoonfull and said "The St Louis Cardinals . I remember in the 1985 NL Championship Series STL vs LA game 6. Jack Clark's 9th inning 3 run homer off Tom Niedenfuer to win the game and the NL championship. Man that was a great moment!!" Yes that was a great NLCS. Again congrats on your R.E. McCabe Award . Tell my readers in McCabe what is your HBD Philosophy? Dennis started carving on his 22oz Ribeye and said " I keep changing and adapting to the game. Without much success. I use to try to outscore my opponents. Now I am trying to go with pitching, defense and speed.I am trying to rebuild the Phillies, into a Good defense, good pitching team and move away from trying to outscore the other team. Also building the farm system to better fit the stadium I play in." Great Plan Dennis! If you can give a Newbie advice on this game of ours. What would it be ? He grabbed a roll and sopped up the leftover sauce on his plate and replied. " Watch how the really successfully owners put together a team and the stadium they play in. Don't make trades just to make trades." Great advice Dennis.
With our bellies full we meandered thru the casino, ending up at the Molten Nightclub. I lost track of Dennis after he followed a Blond Beauty onto the dance floor. I'm sure by now he is out of the doghouse and is looking forward to next season in McCabe. Congrats Dennis on making The Phillies into Contenders!! This is I.B. Lyon reporting for McCabe Magazine.
