Here is a look at the 10 top money grubbing International free agents. I also sifted thru the rest and found 2 Foriegn DITR's. Theres alot of free agents on this list. It will be interesting to see who gets picked up?? Enjoy
The highest bid for this years IFA's was Enrique Diaz .He was signed by the Twins for 17,000,000 and a M L contract (327k for 5 years). He came up through the Twns farm system and recieved his callup in season 4 during roster expansions. He started out by playing 3rd base and then was moved to second in season 7. Finally he found his true calling in the outfield and won a GG in right field. Diaz filed for free agency last season and was signed by the Cubs for 4 years at 7.2 million per. With his .279 batting average and about 20 homers a year he may get a contract extension next year. If not he may sign with another team.
The Cubs signed Alfonseca for 16,000,000. He stayed in the Chicago farm system and won several accolades including a AAA MVP. He got the call after 25 games in season 6 and had a great rookie year hitting .330. Alfonseca really didn't stand out but he has had a solid career so far. And he is currently a free agent so if you need a veteran thats on his way out ......He'll play for Peanuts.Rumor has it the Cubs will sign him to a sign and retire contract.
Jose "Cirque" Solano was signed by the Marlins for 15,000,000 and a S/T invite. He got the callup in season 4 and was traded in season 5 to Arizona. At Arizona Jose won 5 GG . 4 were at 1st base and 1was at RF.Since then he's played in Millwaukee and now plays in Atlanta. He still has 1 year left of his 6.3 million a year contract. So he could be a free agent in season 15.
The Cleveland Injuns signed Esteban Guzman for 10.9 million and a M L contract(327k for 5 years). This cat has played his entire career in Cleveland and is currently a free agent.Probably has to do with his .267 batting average and 450 strikouts. If you need a defensive 2nd baseman with speed on the bases. You can get him cheap!
David "Bowling" Pena was signed by my brothers team who thinks this game is a waste of time( Mariners).Bowling Pena signed for 10,800,000 and a S/T invite. He spent 6 years in the Mariners farm system then was promoted to the bigs in season 7, after Philly signed him to a 5 year 27.3 million dollar contract. He has been a bi-polar pitcher by amassing almost as many walks as strikeouts 508bb-758so.Thats why he's 55-62 lifetime.
Darren "Dorian" Gray signed by the Pirates for 10,100,000. He spent 3 years in the farm system and was called up in season 4.After playing only one year at PNC park, he was dealt to Washington. He played in the Capitol for 7 seasons and was released in season 12. He is currently getting older sitting on his couch. Hoping to get a call. But with a batting average of .255 it may never come.
I signed Benji Moya for 8,900,000 and a S/T invite. Benji was in my farm system until I called him up in season 5. He has been solid for me ta SS with a Batting average of .281 and a Fielding percentage of .972.Benji will be going to free agency next year. (WARNING: Shameless Trade Plug ahead).....Unless I trade him first. The latter looks like my best bet.Any offers will be appreciated!
The Yanks signed Placido Cruz for 8,400,000. He spent 4 years in the New York farm system then was traded to Millwaukee. He spent another 1/2 year in the minors and got the callup during roster expansions. He averages about .280 a year with 20 home runs. And while he's not a GG at LF . he has played in 2 All-Star games. He still has 2 more years on his contract.
Pedro "Nothing" Matos was signed for 6,000,000 by the Rays. He was traded in season 3 to the Reds and finally was called up 4 years ago. He was sucessful his first year as a pinch hitter sporting a .379 batting average. But then the next 2 years he struggled coming off the pine. He was released last year and is working in Venezuala. He is thriving in the Lucrative Kidnapping industry.
The Chicago White sox picked up this kid for 6,000,000.The White Sox were moved to Milwaukee in season 2 and Pedro was dealt to Arizona in season 7.He came off the bench that year and the future looked bright .Then he was dealt in season 8 after only a couple games. This time he landed in Rochester where he faded into obscurity afte hitting .310 and .265. If any wants to pick up a clutch hitter ...he's available. But I was kidding ...he's no longer the hitter he once was.
Another 2 too look at
I picked up this guy for a paltry 1.6 million and a S/T invite. He was a beast in my Farm System winning 2 minor league MVP's and 5 Silver Sluggers ,1 ROY and many All-Star games.I probably should have given him a shot at the Bigs.....Opps.Guess I have Rick Perry disease. The Brewers gave him a shot and he hit 43 homers that year. Now he's back in AAA making 3 million a year. Not bad for a cheap IFA
The Padres picked this guy up for 4.2 million.Fernando Urbina was traded in season 3 to the Royals and was promoted to the Bigs that year. He played 8 years in Kansas City then left for free agency. He has played for the Injuns ,Angels and now the Astros. The reason I put him on the list is.... for his longevity. He's played in 954 games, not bad for a 6 million dollar IFA .
