A L EAST SEASON 14 PREVIEW

New York
New York Yankees (AL)
ARomano
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

LAST YEARS RECORD:89-73

LAST YEARS PREDICTION:90-72  It was a Battle for the division and ARomanos Yanks came up short. The Yanks did score their share of runs but they also gave up as many runs.Thats probably why they played 56 one run games. The Yanks used to own this division and it's now been 2 years since they've won it. This team will battle for the division and probably come up short again. But don't be suprised if they do alot of damage in the playoffs.

OUT: Alberto Garza , Norberto Crespo , Rick Ward

IN: Oscar Martin , Luis Gomez

PREVIEW: Looks like ARomano and the Yanks are back. They didn't fall short like I predicted and went all the way to the ALCS before losing to Oakland. They did all this with a great offensive team (.279 BA, 1611 hits) and stellar defense (.986 FPct). In the offseason ARomano let Garza, Crespo, and Ward head to free agency but he did Re-sign David Stechschulte and Brandon Padden. With just a few holes to fill he first signed my B player( Martin) and promoted Gomez. The Yanks are a veteran team and they got a little younger with the additions. But they do have a ageing starting rotation. ARomano will have to keep a ready supply of Ben-Gay on hand for the old timers. But they should play like solid veterans. PREDICTION:85-77

LAST YEARS RECORD:86-76

LAST YEARS PREDICTION:100-62  The Redsox did win the Division and they did not win back to back World Series. It still was a very good postseason for pat007ohmss. His guys lost in the ALCS to a tough Minnesota squad.Back for this season, it's the same team with 2 additions. And it looks like this team will win the division or grab a wild card. The playoffs???? Depends on the health and some luck.

OUT: C.C. Barfield , Bob Alston , Eddie Rigby , Dick Jarvis , Dave Sheldon , Howard Moore

IN: Bernie Burnett , Jose Arias , Bobby Carpenter , Tom Metzger , Alex Garces , Pasqual Matos , Brad Borland , Orval Jefferies

PREVIEW: The Redsox squeeked into the playoffs by winning a tiebreaker for the last W/C berth. They advanced to the ALDCS and lost to division foe New York in 5.The Redsox had the best hitting club last season(.291) but it wasn't enough to get them to the Series. In the offseason Pat007ohmss let Barfield ,Alston,Rigby and Jarvis go to free agency. Then he traded away Moore and Sheldon. After purging the dirty half-dozen. Patrick brought in 5 shiny new players (Burnett,Arias,Carpenter, Metzger, Garces) thru the free agent market. Then he picked up 3 players in a trade with Houston (Matos, Borland, Jeffries). With the influx of 4 Houston players and several others. This is a completely different team than last year and will rely on the new and improved Rotation. But can the bullpen and good hitting get them to the finish? I think this team will vie for the division and get at least a wild-card.PREDICTION:90-72

LAST YEARS RECORD:77-85

LAST YEARS PREDICTION:78-84  When I predicted a 70 win season.I really didn't believe the Orioles would win that many. And as it turned out , thats what happened. Not a big deal though . This team is in the 3rd year of a rebuild and they are looking to future years ahead. This team won't knock your socks off. But they are improving with some nice trades. This will be the 4th year of the rebuild and they may make the 500 mark.Unlike last year I'm starting to Believe!!

OUT: Amos Collins , Tom Metzger , Harry Franco , Haywood Palmer , Catfish Carter , Chipper Gibbs , Richie Hodges , Tony Sojo , Phillip Rushford , Alex Mahomes

IN: Doug Schulte , Joaquin Ordaz , Sun Martin , Pat Sosa , Onan Park , Nick Bolton , Zip Ramsey

BOURBONCASK'S PREVIEW: With some trades late last season, and another one this off season, the Orioles have added some hits to there lineup. Just recently, Baltimore has seen the departure of Phillip Rushford and a couple of minor league prospects for the likes of Zip Ramsey and Ron Lamb .Both have big bats that sould help take some pressure off a young pitching core, and allow them to pitch deeper into games. The Rule 5 Draft also brought a bat off the bench in Nick Bolton . Letting the loved Tom Metzger go this off season, in favor of better defense behind the plate was a good move in hind site. The Orioles have more power in the lineup now, than at any time in thier history. On the other side of the ball, Bourboncask shead a few underachievers pitchers and promoted the highly anticipated Sun Martin (season ten's #6 overall pick),and Pat Sosa (also a season ten, first round pick). For leadership in the pullpen, Doug Schulte was added via free agency. If all goes well, this team is looking to significantly add to last season's win total, and hopefully make the playoffs.Although, being in a division with NY and Boston, both making the playoffs last year, it may have to be threw the wild card. Being in the underdog roll, however, would not hurt 5th year owner Bourboncasks feelings at all.

PREVIEW:
Like last year I believe this team is heading in the right direction. They picked up a couple more pieces last season in the draft and IFA market(Manuel Hernandez, Matt Sandberg). The Orioles will start winning soon and Bourboncask can finally put down the Bottle. A sober Bourboncask let Collins and Metzger go to free agency but resigned Benny Ramirez. Then he released 5 players  (Franco,Palmer,Carter,Gibbs,Hodges) and traded Sojo(Waiver Claim) , Rushford and Mahomes to the Cubbies. With half the team out on their asses, Bourbon was ready to remake the Orioles. First he signed free agents Schulte ,Ordaz and promoted Martin , Sosa and Park. Then he picked up Bolton in the R-5 and traded for Zip. From what I can see the Orioles are defensivley challenged and average with the bat. The pitching is going to have to get them thru and they are a young bunch and should improve every year.Bourbon has alot of talent in the minors but for now they will finish about .500. PREDICTION:81-81

Washington D.C.
Washington D.C. Nationals (AL)
ardthomp
View Hardball Dynasty Profile

LAST YEARS RECORD:74-88

LAST YEARS PREDICTION:81-81  Ardthomp did indeed add several prospects in a rebuild year.Including #1 overall Pedro Rodrigo and Rookie MVP Harry Azocar .Looks like Ard is making a move to be competative. With his Catching corps solidified, his teams pitching and defense will improve.(NAH-PO-LI) And with several prospects in the pipeline. Things are looking up in D C.

OUT: Craig Ingram , Jack Baker , Juan Mendez , Yogi Radmanovich , Cliff Buckley , Juan Pascual , Kyle Ramsey , Armando Cruz

IN: Desi Seneca , Juan Herrera , Emmanuel Cedeno , Curt Clapp , Pascual Duran , Al Marrero , Tony Tanaka

PREVIEW: Maybe I was a little to optomistic last season when Ardthomp picked up Peter Pastornicky , Craig Ingram and Torey Tabaka in early season trades. I thought this team would take off......... Well.....that didn't happen. The froth was dripping from the side of ardthomp mouth when he pulled out his knife and started cutting away the dead weight. First he sent 7 players to free agency (Ingram,Baker,Mendez,Radmanovich,Buckley,Pascual,Ramsey). Then he traded Cruz to my Rangers. Once the blood and gore was cleaned up . Ardthomp claimed a couple of Pitcher off the wire (Seneca,Herrera) and promoted 2 others (Cedeno,Clapp). Then he picked up 2 R-5 players (Duran,Marrero) and traded for Tanaka. Usually when a team is rebuilt with Waiver wire and R-5 it spells doom. But The havock that Reigny wrought on the Nationals is fastly fading away. Ardthomp is slowly picking up nice young players and keeping payrolls down to collect more (5 1st round picks). This team should finish about .500. PREDICTION:80-82
