LAST YEARS RECORD:95-67
LAST YEARS PREDICTION:94-68 The Padres did win their division but they did not win it all. Still it was a good regular season for jgarron. In the playoffs the Padres swept Atlanta in the first round . Then they in turn were swept by the Reds in the second round. This is still the same Padres as last season with a few tweaks. They will compete for their 10th consecutive division title. and be in the playoffs. Those are a given. Can they win the Series ??? Not Sure, but they have a good chance. It may take a little luck of course.
OUT: Julian Alvarez , Alex Gomez , Cristobal Molina , Dick Lukasiewicz
IN: Asdrubal Pelaez , Dennys Blackmon
JGARRON'S PREVIEW: There has been little news around Padres camp this year. The team is basking in the glory of their first Championship and has remained committed being fiscally responsible. They lose only Julian Alvarez, a big bat but not somebody who really ever fit into team plans. The Padres will continue to try and take advantage of their ballpark and rely on good pitching to get them to their 11th consecutive division title. The other teams in the division continue to rebuild and this might be the last year the Padres are able to walk backwards, blindfolded as they build their annual large divisional lead. Look for Skeeter Brown to wheel himself out to the mound one last hurrah as Padres closer. Should be a fun year, the Pads will be proud to defend their title!
PREVIEW: Congrats to Jgarron and his Padres for finally winning it all. They have been knocking on the door for some time now and they deserved to win it. After winning their 10th consecutive division title they went into the playoffs as the #2 seed. They got by the Reds in 4 and beat the Upstart Pirates in the league championship. In the Series they faced the Athletics and won in 6 games. When you win the Series it seems everyone wants to get paid. So Jgarron let Alvarez, Gomez and Molina go to free agency but he did resign Matt Grimsley and Skeeter Brown . Then he placed Lukasiewicz on the Wire. While the loss of some good players may hurt a little. The Addition of Pelaez and Blackmon last season should help them overcome. PREDICTION:92-70

LAST YEARS RECORD:85-77
LAST YEARS PREDICTION:81-81 The Diamondbacks barely finished above the cellar dwellar Mets.Yoker70 takes over this up and coming club after the previous owner bolted . This was mainly due to the Seige of the Arizona clubhouse by a group of disgruntled season ticket holders. They were armed with pitchforks, clubs and naked pictures of Oprah. Babdor was last seen running away and yelling THE HORROR..... THE HORROR!!Yoker took over a young and talented team that I thought was getting better. This team should at least hit .500 or better. Or I may break out my pitchfork and Fat Chick Photos.
OUT: Kid Page , Phillip Williams , Ken Curtis , Howie Humphries , Yuniesky Pujols , Adam Xavier
IN: Chick Shaw , Pedro Borbon , Antonio Takahashi , Arthur Stanley , Bob Alston , Derrick Havens
PREVIEW: Thank god I didn't have to break out my Fat chick Photos. My ex-wife would probably sue me over them. In fact the Arizona fans have laid down their pitchforks and Torches and have embraced Yoker and his staff. That sounded dirty. With Yokers....ahem... Staff..... safely put away, he picked a future stud in last years draft (Benjamin Griffiths). In the offseason Yoker let 5 players go to free agency(Page,Williams,Curtis,Humphries,Pujols) and released another(Xavier). With many gaps to fill he spent 23-24 million in free agency(Shaw,Borbon,Takahashi,Stanley,Alston) and promoted another(Havens).Yoker has a great eye for talent and he improved this team last season. I think the Padres will have some competition for the division.PREDICTION:90-72 no more Oprah Photos.

LAST YEARS RECORD:81-81
LAST YEARS PREDICTION:90-72 Toothdocs Mariners finished a little better than I predicted. With the early season callups of Tommy Duckworth and Yogi Wilhelm .They came within 4 games of making the playoffs. With some talent in the Minors and 13 million in cap space Toothdoc has alot of flexability in completing this team. This team will improve on their record and fight for the division crown. they should at least win a Wild Card.
OUT: Shane Gentry , Brian Katou , Chone Benard
IN: Stephen Ford , James Mori , Brady Trammell
PREVIEW: The Mariners did not make the post season as I predicted. It was probably due to their anemic hitting (.254 BA, 1441 hits). But I think the real culprit is the defense. Seattle had the 2nd worst defensive club last season with a .978 FPct and 130 Errors. On the bright side the pitching was very good (4.03 ERA , 1.31 WHIP). So in the offseason Toothdoc let Gentry go to free agency then released Katou and Bernard. He signed Ford to a 10 million a year contract and picked up Mori and Trammell in the R-5. I still look as this team as an up and coming squad. They have the talent but their youth could make them erratic. This should be an up year.PREDICTION:88-74

LAST YEARS RECORD:69-93
LAST YEARS PREDICTION:86-76 The Rockies finished 6 games below my prediction . It still is a franchise record for most wins in a season. Axtell has brought a winning attitude to this Colorado club. The addition of West will strengthen the bullpen .And the addition of Spahn helped the offense but weakend the defense. This team will make it a 3 game race in the tough N L West. This team could be a Sleeper pick If they continue to improve.
OUT: Alex Tabaka , Mac Spahn , Bill Torre , Gary Cheney , David Montanez , Bennie Carr
IN: Ellie Nelson , Harry Franco , Alberto Garza , Enrique Diaz
PREVIEW: The team was not a Sleeper as predicted. They were comatose! Axtell pulled the plug on his struggling club last season by trading away M L Talent for younger players. He picked up some good ones like Andres Barrios , Bruce Broome , Rodrigo Ontiveros and Wayne Newhouser .In the offseason Axtell had several low level players filling in for the dearly departed so he let several players leave for free agency (Tabaka,Spahn, Torre, Cheney) and released another (Montanez). He traded Carr to the Cubs to finish the house cleaning. Then Axtell went shopping and picked up 3 bargain basement players (Nelson,Franco,Garza) and traded for Diaz. The Rockies are built on power hitting and why not, Coors Field is a launching pad. But can this average pitching staff keep them in the park. I still think the Rockies have a good chance of a winning season but this is a tough division. PREDICTION:81-81
